Keynote

Kris Painter, Athletic Director - Terre Haute North High School, Indiana

“Missy’s message is important to young people because kids expect themselves to be perfect in everything they do especially when they are first starting out. Missy tells them it’s okay to fail but don’t allow that to be what defines you.”

CRUSH THE INNER CRITIC

What’s This All About:

“You’re not good enough, you don’t have what it takes and that’s why you’re scared!”

That's what every elite performer's inner critic secretly whispered to them before they made the decision to own their imposter syndrome, face their fears and kill their addiction to being validated by the scoreboard and other people. I should know, I was one of them.

In order to perform at an elite level without burnout and on a consistent basis, you need to learn how to silence your inner critic so your future self can live a life without regret.

By the end of your time with Missy, you will be able to crumble the tight grip of your inner critic by embracing your fears, take action in shifting your mindset away from limited thinking, and be able to pull on resilience tools that will empower you to go after your wildest dreams.

Learning Objectives

1) Identify, challenge and overcome the negative stories your inner critic is whispering in your ear so you can become an elite performer.

2) Unlock the power of vulnerability so you can lean into your fears, have courage to take on new challenges and truly discover your capabilities

3) Learn three simple tools to help overcome anxiety, disappointment and failure so you can focus on the most important play in sport and life, THE NEXT PLAY.

“Missy is as impactful a presenter for scholastic athletes as I have seen in my 30-plus years as an educator. Her ability to engage, inspire, challenge, and empathize with a diverse audience is unparalleled. Additionally, the adult mentors find value in her presentation. Having been an athlete at the upper echelons of collegiate competition certainly gives her instant credibility. Furthering that credibility is the sharing of her physical, emotional, and personal challenges. A large portion of the attendees can see themselves in her. It is not often that any presenter can hold the rapt attention of high school students for an entire 60-minute presentation. Missy did so thrice in the same day.

Anecdotally, even the most jaded educators are able to glean something from Missy. I am aware of several of our chaperones sitting through all three sessions led by Missy during our event. Personally, I am a huge fan of her work and have been witness to the evolution of her craft.

Missy is the consummate professional. She is meticulous in preparation, detailed, and a very good communicator. Nothing is left to chance. I am most impressed with the manner in which Missy seeks feedback and uses it as an evaluative tool. I recommend Missy West without hesitation or reservation.
